To celebrate the occasion of Grandmaster Rhee's promotion to 9th Dan, a reproduction of his fist, together with the specially created gold and diamond ring, was made by sectioning individual parts of his hand with clay and making a three piece plaster mould.   The mould of the ring was made separately and added at a later stage to the main fist.

Anecodote:  As Grandmaster Rhee's fist was completely encased in plaster waiting for it to set, the plaster became too heated for comfort.  It is usual to break apart the sections of a mould with chisel and hammer when cooled, but as Grandmaster Rhee became uncomfortable, he merely opened up his hand and the mould separated by itself - a show of incredible hand strength, and the mould survived.

The next stage was to coat the inside of the mould with release agent and produce a model by pouring plaster into the original mould.  The resulting model was then worked on as the "original," refining the surface, adding the ring and preparing it for the mould.

A silicone mould was then produced from the original model and a limited number of reproductions cast in reconstituted stone.  The above example was plated with 9carat gold.
